Team,
We wanted to inform you about an upcoming change to enhance our security and functionality. Starting November 1st, 2024, we will be exclusively using the Microsoft Outlook app to access email on all mobile devices for Nucor Teammates. This means that only the Outlook app will be able to send and receive Nucor email on Android and Apple devices.
Currently, you can use both the built-in email apps and the Outlook app. We encourage you to start using the Outlook app as soon as possible. This will help you become familiar with the app and ensure a smooth transition without any lapse in service on the November 1st cutoff.
We understand that this change is impactful, and many of you are used to the built-in mail apps on your phones. However, thousands of teammates have already made the switch to the Outlook app and have shared positive feedback about its additional functionality and updated interface. We're confident that this transition will bring even more benefits and improvements to your daily work experience.
Why are we doing this?
-
Security Concerns: The Outlook app can securely erase data if a phone is lost or stolen, which helps protect our sensitive company information.
-
Encryption & Data Governance: The Outlook app supports encryption for emails and attachments, preventing unauthorized forwarding. Without this app, encrypted emails might not be readable, causing communication issues.
- Consistency Across Devices: We want everyone to have the same experience, no matter what device they use. Switching to the Outlook app ensures that everyone has the same interface and features, whether on a laptop, kiosk, tablet, or cell phone.
What about Calendar?
The calendar app that comes with your phone won't show Outlook events anymore. You'll need to use the new Outlook app for your calendar. The Outlook calendar has extra features like seeing more meeting notes and more RSVP options.
What about Contacts?
No changes here - your contacts will stay the same, whether they were added directly on your device or maintained in Outlook.
*Action Required* When switching to Outlook app, you will need to sync your contacts from the app.
Please see the link on how to Syncing Mobile Phone Contacts from Outlook App
What about Notes & Reminders?
- These features are specific to Apple iOS devices and are not supported by Outlook. If you have notes or reminders saved to your Nucor account, please copy those off to another app or location.
-
Most teammates are starting to utilize the Sticky Notes app on Windows. Those notes are visible in the Outlook as well as the OneNote app. To get started, please take a look here: Get started with Sticky Notes - Microsoft Support
What happens on November 1st, 2024, for all Nucor teammates?
The built-in email app will stop receiving and sending emails, as well as receiving calendar events. The Outlook app will continue to work as usual.
